Orthodontics
This specialty is concerned with the straightening of your teeth and facial structures.  The specialist is named an orthodontist.  These doctors are commonly know for placing "braces."




Periodontics
This specialty is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of supporting and surrounding tissues of the tooth.  The specialist is called a periodontist.  Doctors, in this field of dentistry are more commonly known to treat the "gums."

This area of dentistry does require additional training, but is not considered a specialty.
Dental Public Health
This specialty is concerned with the prevention of dental disease.  The public health dentist works with the community to promote dental health.  Common sites for these dental sites are in the city and state wide "health departments." 
Forensic Dentistry (not a specialty)
This area of dentistry deals with identification of bite marks that are left on bodies.  These specialists work closely with investigative teams to help identify an individual through tooth restorations and morphology using dental records.  This area of dentistry does require additional training, but is not considered a specialty.
